The Yankees have been without both Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius for the last few weeks. But the both of them took another step in the right direction when it came to their respective rehabs.
Before Saturday, Sanchez had been playing a light game of catch from 60 feet. On Saturday, Sanchez escalated to playing catch from 90 feet along with tee-and-toss.
On Saturday, Sanchez said he didn’t experience any pain or discomfort during his rehab.
“I think everything is going the way we want it to,” Sanchez said through an interpreter. “I don’t have any pain or discomfort.”
The Yankees are expecting Sanchez back within the next two weeks. He suffered a shoulder injury while swinging on a 3-1 pitch during the Yankees series in Baltimore two weeks ago.
After the initial diagnosis, the Yankees believed Sanchez would be out for a month, which is how long Gregorius will be out for. Gregorius injured his shoulder turning a double play during the World Baseball Classic, and was placed on the disabled list prior to Opening Day.
However, Gregorius is making progress while with High-A Tampa. He played his second rehab game on Saturday and went 0-for-3 while playing six innings at shortstop.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi disclosed he had a positive report about Gregorius and they’re anticipating his return in early May.
