The moment Didi Gregorius returned to Yankees camp, the team knew they were going to need a new shortstop for Opening Day.

The Yankees announced Gregorius was diagnosed with a shoulder strain and won’t engage in baseball activity for two weeks. The Yankees are expecting Gregorius back with the team in six weeks, which means we might not see him until the end of April.

Joe Girardi indicates the shoulder injury could have happened during the World Baseball Classic, when Gregorius made a normal throw on a double play while manning second base.

The Yankees have a few options to replace Gregorius, ranging from Tyler WadeRuben TejadaRonald Torreyes, and their own second baseman Starlin Castro.

The Yankees are scheduled to open the season against the Tampa Bay Rays on April 2nd.
